Series Four.

‘Outstanding’ is something of the holy grail for teachers, so just how possible is it to move from being ‘good’ to being ‘outstanding’ – and in just a few short weeks? Four good teachers are challenged to put their practice under the exacting gaze of School Inspector Clare Gillies. They then get some some expert advice in pedagogy and communications and a few weeks back in class to try out some new techniques before Clare returns to see how they’ve done. With the cameras documenting their journey both professionally and personally, this is telly for the heart and mind!

Some of the programmes for this series have been interactive, with the un-cut lessons uploaded onto the Teachers TV website for the teaching community to view and post productive comments.

From Good To Outstanding – Esther Arnott:
Secondary History teacher Esther Arnott takes her year 7s through their paces exploring the impact of William of Normandy on the English. The question is, can she take her already good teaching up the next notch and become ‘outstanding’? With specialist CPD help from History Advisor Michael Riley and communications expert Ulrika Schulte-Baukloh, we watch Esther try and raise her game.

From Good To Outstanding – James Evelyn:
James is a good teacher at Southwold Primary School – and he wants to be even better. His maths lesson for a year 3 and 4 class is focused on data handling, and Inspector Clare Gillies points out some clear areas for improvement. He then gets some specialist CPD help from mathematics consultant Andrew Jeffrey and communications coach Ulrika Schulte-Baukloh – and aims for an ‘outstanding’ verdict.
